Also a college teacher, in 2005 she was named Adjunct Faculty of the Year by Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana for exceptional teaching in psychology, communication, and sociology. In 2007, she was awarded the True Inspirations award by the Westfield Moms Group. She was also awarded the Rosilyn G. Kerlin Women in Leadership Award in 2007 from her alma mater, Taylor University.

She lives in northern Indianapolis with her family and one enthusiastic cocker spaniel.
